Dual education

OPENING THE DOORS TO THE WORLD

At Sage College, Spanish subjects are integrated into British education, offering a truly bicultural educational experience. The Spanish Department plays a key role at all levels, from Primary to Secondary.

Our students take British subjects, just like any English school worldwide, in addition to a selection of Spanish subjects required by a foreign school in Spain. This approach gives our institution a unique bicultural identity in the heart of Cádiz.

  • In Primary School, the subjects of Spanish Language and Literature and Spanish Culture are included.
  • In Secondary School, Spanish Language and Literature are studied along with Geography and History.
  • In addition, a selection of Spanish Baccalaureate subjects is offered, from which students choose and study two according to their preferences and academic objectives (PCE).

This educational model, which combines the British curriculum with Spanish subjects, offers our students a unique advantage: they can obtain both a British qualification and the Spanish ESO (Compulsory Secondary Education) and Bachillerato, resulting in a double degree. Upon completion of their studies at Sage College, students can choose from public or private universities in Spain, the United Kingdom, or anywhere in the world.

We have a department dedicated to the recognition and comprehensive support of Spanish language studies. The Technical Directorate of the Spanish Section coordinates the compulsory studies in Spanish Language, Spanish Culture, and Geography and History, managing the relevant authorizations and documentation with the Education Delegation of the Regional Government of Andalucia.

In addition, this department is responsible for the recognition of British studies with their Spanish equivalents:

  • At the end of Year 11, recognition for the ESO (Compulsory Secondary Education) qualification is processed.
  • At the end of Year 13, recognition for the Spanish Baccalaureate qualification is processed.

With this approach, we ensure that our students receive an education that opens the doors to all possible possibilities, both academic and professional.

TOWARDS ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

At Sage College, we guide our students toward academic excellence, supporting them at every stage of their education within the framework of the National Curriculum of England. Thanks to this solid educational foundation, our students earn IGCSE and A-Level certifications, globally recognized qualifications that allow them to access prestigious universities both in Spain and around the world. In addition, we provide a comprehensive guide to official examinations for reference, designed to guide and support students and families throughout the entire academic journey.

The IGCSEs (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) are internationally recognised qualifications that are part of the British curriculum and are equivalent to the 3rd and 4th years of Compulsory Secondary Education. Designed for students aged 14 to 16, the IGCSEs prepare students for future academic challenges, including A-Levels, and provide a solid foundation for entry to prestigious universities around the world.

The compulsory subjects include Mathematics, English, Spanish, and Science (Biology, Physics, and Chemistry). Students then select one option from each of the three blocks: History, Physical Education or French; Business Studies, Drama or Economics; ICT, Travel and Tourism or German.

In addition, all students take  Core Physical Education, Geografía e History, Lengua española y literatura, an Enrichment Programme (School Musical, Duke of Edinburgh Award, Chess, Model United Nations, etc.), and PSHE (Personal, Social, and Health Education).

With their IGCSE results, students confirm their A Level choices.

At Sage College, students have the opportunity to choose a Key Stage 5 pathway that best suits their individual learning style and future aspirations.

Students may follow a traditional A Level pathway, studying up to four A Level subjects, with a recommended minimum of three subjects.

This year, Sage College has also introduced BTEC Level 3 qualifications, allowing students to study Sport and/or Business alongside their A Level subjects.

This hybrid pathway provides greater flexibility for students who benefit from a more practical and coursework-based approach to learning, as BTEC courses are internally assessed rather than relying solely on final external examinations.

Both A Level and BTEC qualifications are internationally recognised and provide strong pathways into university and higher education. Importantly, universities award equivalent UCAS points for comparable achievement in both qualifications; for example, an A grade at A Level carries the same UCAS tariff points as a Distinction grade in a BTEC qualification. The BTEC qualification is also now fully recognised and accredited in Spain as an alternative qualification to A Levels for access to Spanish universities.

Sage College’s success is based on rigor and the pursuit of academic excellence. This year, the IGCSE and A-Level exam results reflect the hard work and commitment of our students and teachers, achieving a pass rate of 85.5% in the IGCSE exams and 100% in the A-Level stage in the 2023/24 academic year. These results have enabled all our students to gain admission to university, in most cases as their first choice.

COMPREHENSIVE PREPARATION FOR THE FUTURE

At Sage College, our students are fully prepared to enter universities in Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States, and other countries. All courses pursued at Sage College are accredited by the Spanish Ministry of Education.

In the final years of high school, students receive academic and career guidance with personalised advice for the university admissions process. Qualified teachers guide students through their course and university selection, ensuring they have everything they need to confidently achieve their goals. Additionally, activities such as university fairs and trips, are organized to help students make well-informed decisions.
